Southern Highlands Youth Initiatives (SHYI) was established in mid-2016 by a determined group of sexual minority youth in the Southern Highlands region of Tanzania. The organization's primary goal is to address the various challenges faced by sexual minority youth in the area. By November 22, 2016, SHYI successfully obtained registration as a youth NGO from the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children (MoHCDEC).
Membership in the organization is voluntary and open to Tanzanians have attained the age of 18 years old, who aspires at youth developments.
Type (a)
These are members who participated in the initiation and establishment of the organization, their names appear in the founders list in our constitution
Type (b)
These are members that join the organization after registration by the rules and procedures established for an application of membership.
Type (c)
These are members who are appointed by the organization following their outstanding contribution to the organization but they are not allowed to vote or be voted.
